Washington,
D.C. native Steve Bowes formed the Pharmacy Prophets
in 2002 as a (supposedly) one-time live band to
play a benefit show in honor of his good friend
John Kidner who had to check out on things much
too early. One show led to another and he found
that being a lead singer was a more fulfilling gig
for a narcissistic attention freak than being a
bass player, (where he had plied his trade for many
years before). He's been front and center for the
Prophets ever since.
Prior to the Prophets Steve played bass for D.C.
bands Too Small Children, Stonejury, SuperGiant,
Magnaflux and Luka Brazzi. He is a proud veteran
of pretty much every rathole club that the city
offered forth from 1990 on. There was a disastrous
stint in Hollywood many years back, but it's better
not to talk too much about that. He still gets twitchy
and the mention of the Whisky A-Go-Go.
In 2006 Steve came up with a vague story idea about
a girl and ghosts, and fathers and sons and murder
and love. That idea became "Fantomé",
the album the band is lovingly slaving away creating.
Steve has two daughters that he loves more than
the breadth of the sky and the depth of the ocean
and he is actually much taller than he appears in
real life.
INFLUENCES:
The Who, Hanoi Rocks, The Afghan Whigs/Twilight
Singers, Mark Lanegan, Tom Waits, Shawn Smith, Neil
Young, the Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop, good rock and
roll and bad heavy metal. All the freaks, maniacs,
broken hearts and unbreakable spirits that inhabit
the places which provides the settings for the songs.
And his dad, who is pretty much an intellectual
and spiritual badass.
